Had great fun at the 14th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party Countdown to the Twenties on New York City’s Governors Island on Father’s Day!

My outfit was a combination of things old and things new! My daughter made my hairpiece. I wore my mother’s watch and carried one of her vintage purses. All the event goers were asked to dress 20’s style. The ferry to the island was full of people in creatively festive clothing. The fun began on the boat!

We took a picnic lunch and strolled around, looking at the vintage cars on display, listening to the live music of the time, watching people play croquet and learn how to dance, and looking at items for sale.

Learned all about the C.O. Bigelow company at their section, where I indulged in sampling Gülsha Rosewater and spoke with the CO Bigelow rep — did anyone know that they started as an apothecary in 1838 and are older than Kiehl’s-Since-1851! It’s the oldest apothecary (pharmacy) in the USA and happy customers included Mark Twain and Eleanor Roosevelt! Got to admire that longevity and the vintage feel.

We each took home a tote that contained a Countdown to the Twenties blanket, Gülsha Rosewater and Proraso shaving products from CO Bigelow, Found Cucumber mineral water, Belvoir Fruit Farms elderflower and rose lemonades — souvenirs to cap off a fun day!
