Most of us enjoyed at least three months of sun-worshiping and hot weather. We spent hours outside, soaking up the rays (sometimes forgetting our sunscreen), digging in our gardens, being bombarded with salt water spray, soaking in chlorinated pools, and getting sand in places we don’t want.

How can we recover from that in time for Fall?

It’s a long wonderful summer, a time when you are exposed to sun, extreme heat, all that’s in the air that attracts to your skin like a magnet: salt water, pool water, “fresh” water, dirt, sand, leaves, oils and especially sweat. You’ve also reached the height of the season’s activity and need a quick break, a little quiet, and a little time to rejuvenate and re-energize before you squeeze every moment of enjoyment of the remainder of the summer.

It’s time to wind down from all that warm weather activity that caused sun damage, clogged pores, and oily or irritated skin. Fall is coming, school is beginning, everyone will be back in the office on a full time schedule.

Time to get ready by doing regular pampering and self-care sessions.

Create home spa time. Soft towels, soothing surroundings, calming music, pretty flowers, gentle calming aromas and a nice soothing bath in your own home is just what is needed. Why go to a Day Spa or Away Spa when it’s so easy to do a “Stay Spa”? You don’t always have to leave home to rejuvenate. Turn your bathroom into a Stay Spa.

Aromatherapy will get you in the right mood. In your bath, use products with ingredients derived from nature: herbs, flowers, extracts from tree bark and leaves. Peppermint, rosemary, jasmine, orange peel are so effective. Candles with natural oils can be relaxing, too.

Do not overuse essential oils; always use them in the professionally-recommended amounts or formulas, since concentrated essential oils can do more damage than good.

Bath salts ease tired, achy muscles after being so active all summer. Also bath of powdered milk gets rid of dry, ashy skin.

Make sure that water isn’t too hot! it will melt away the natural protective oils and cause skin to dry out.

Don’t forget to exfoliate to get rid of dead skin. Exfoliate your skin with scrubs purchased from the spa you visited or a sea salt scrub made at home.

Finally, apply a light moisturizer to seal in all the benefits from your pampering soak. Repeat through Fall and you’ll be ready for whatever you face for the rest of the year!

(Speaking of face, Pat Collins SkinSolutions® line of cleansers, moisturizers, facial mask and exfoliators are perfect products to compliment your stay spa sessions. Face the fall with a fresh face!)
