Warm weather will only cause more skin reactions to mask–wearing, but we all MUST continue to protect ourselves regardless!

People are experiencing dry skin, others are breaking out from sweating or reacting to a mask’s material and some even end up with irritated scarred skin when the masks are too tight. This is especially true for people who must wear masks for several hours.

FIRST: always wash your hands before toughing your face. This was true before the pandemic and it’s doubly important now.

SECOND: wash your face with a gentle cleanser — like Pat Collins SkinSolutions® Orange Blossom Cleansing Milk and rinse well.

THIRD: use a sunscreen and moisturize— but don’t slather on extra moisturizer because that will prevent the pores from breathing and cause more irritation and breakouts. Try Pat Collins SkinSolutions® Daily O2 Optimizing Crème or Calendula Oil-Free Crème moisturizers.

FOURTH: those who are not in medical or high–contact settings, change your mask and keep your mask clean. Try using a mask of different material or cloth, but make sure it still has the layers to be effective in blocking virus transmission.

FIFTH: For those who have to wear masks all day, it would be best to find time and a clean washroom to re–wash and moisturize the face during the day. Pat Collins Skin Solutions® On The Go Kits of pre-measured packettes of cleansers, moisturizers are easy to use and so portable that you can keep them in your purse or pocket.

SIXTH: if your skin conditions don’t improve or worsen, it’s time to visit the dermatologist. Don’t wait until it’s severe. Depending on the doctor, you may be able to to be examined virtually without stepping into their office.

No matter what your skin concern, you must keep wearing your mask and washing your face and hands!
