Mask Up Mask Up!
Bless our frontline workers! They have to wear their masks so tight! They’re getting skin reactions, worse than the rest of us who have been wearing masks for quick errands.
No one could have predicted that we would be wearing masks everyday for over a year! While we might experience reactions to wearing masks, we must protect ourselves and each other. But what about what’s under our masks?
Some of us may have reactions to the different materials touching the sensitive skin here on our face.
… Make sure that your face is dry before putting the mask on because that wet material on damp skin can irritate.
… And use a good cream moisturizer to calm down breakouts.
…Try to avoid letting sweat sit on your face. The natural salt and oils can clog the pores and lead to breakouts. Dab gently with a clean cloth or blotting papers, held by clean fingers.
But what if your skin inflammation is really bad? Here’s the Pat Collins SkinSmarts tip: Call your dermatologist!
These days, you’ll be able to get a video appointment and that may be just enough for the doctor to help you.
But don’t be afraid if you have to go in in person.
Why? Severe breakouts can become infected, and cause PERMANENT scarring.
This is Pat Collins. And remember: always wash your hands before you touch your face!
