Here’s one way to avoid the intense summer sun: go experience the “Raindrops on the Junction” Umbrella Sky project at the Flatbush/Nostrand Junction in Brooklyn. Beautiful depiction of the diversity of the Caribbean people who live in this area and variety of people over all of Brooklyn. While it feels good to be underneath all the colors in this shady spot, you cannot stay there forever until the sun goes down. You’ll have to leave the shade and go out in the sun. Put a layer of sunscreen on first before makeup. Usually combo makeup/sunblock formulas don’t have a strong enough SPF, so find a sunscreen that that works with the next skincare layers. This sunscreen rule goes for all shades of skin, from alabaster to obsidian!
How to keep your complexion bright during all these sunny days? Heat causes the natural oils in the skin to overproduce and if you don’t cleanse your skin enough, the oil will trap dirt and pollution that will settle into your pores. Clogged pores and blackheads and itchy/painful/infected breakouts follow! Wash your face on the “delicate cycle”, and rinse well to get rid of cleanser residue that can cause the same problems if left on the face. Always remember the first rule: wash your hands before you touch your face…
It’s a lot of work to keep plants looking healthy with day after day of dry heat and direct sun. The blooms work hard to make us happy! Summer brings so much fun, sights and possibilities. We’ll have lazy days and really active days. But no matter our activities, just like people care for plants, we have to take care of ourselves to avoid becoming dehydrated. Make sure you keep drinking enough liquids and wear that sunscreen no matter your skin shade! Also wear sunglasses to protect the delicate skin around the eyes.
