For International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month I am highlighting Dame Cynthia “Mother” Pratt, CB, JP the Governor-General of the Bahamas!

This former nurse, teacher and college professor also served in the Parliament for 15 years, became Deputy Prime Minister, the first woman to serve as the Minister of National Security, and was even Acting Prime Minister!
 
She was appointed Governor-General by King Charles to Governor-General last fall 2023.

As Governor-General, she has important duties such as appointing judges and ambassadors, welcoming distinguished visiting leaders and traveling internationally as the representative of the Bahamas.
 
On top of all the other important and admirable accomplishments in her career, Mother Pratt is also an ordained minister, a mother of 6 children and a grandmother.

Women are the beginning. Where life, the world, starts. This is one of my real-life icons, a leader from my family home. So glad to have met her!
