CurlFest returned back to Brooklyn! The festival that celebrates natural curls, beauty and culture established roots on the grounds of Prospect Park 10 years ago. It felt like the trees, grass and soil welcomed the everyone back home.
Thanks to the sponsors who had a visible presence and made great effort in supporting this event in a public appreciation for customers. Ticket holders of certain levels received a gift bag that included: Beyonce’s @Cecred, @KissColorsAndCare, @thelipbar, @MielleOrganics, @Miss_Jessies, @ScotchPorter, @SheaMoisture, @ThreadBeauty, @TropicIsleLiving
At the appropriately-named Lena Horne Bandshell: more tribute to Brooklyn women! Now, I would not compare #CurlFest to the Times Square New Year’s Eve countdown, but there was a particular energy I felt on this drizzly day from everyone who attended. The joy of coming together with others who embrace their hair and culture.
We go to #CurlFest24 to experience camaraderie with sisters, and to appreciate the creativity of hair and fashion. Imaginations had no limits when it came to styling and decorating natural hair!
I can only imagine the brainstorming that went on as all the attendees prepared, each and every person putting their looks and natural hair designs together with the anticipation of being seen by others and appreciating each other’s unique styles.
It felt like an affirmation of the past to the present. We were women warriors, members of a tribe displaying—not hiding—our individual beauty.
