Excited to attend the last regular season New York Liberty game! Support the athletes!  I’m at Barclays Center in Brooklyn but the Bahamas is everywhere🇧🇸! This is Jonquel Jones of New York Liberty #jus242. She was born in the Bahamas, my family home! Another coincidence: as a college athlete I was called “Slim” by my teammates; Jonquel was called “Big Slim”! Since she is a 6’6″ power forward, I am not going to ask her to give me my nickname back. This W.N.B.A. All-Star deserves praise. I even got a pair of her new shoes!

At age 14, Jonquel left home to go to school in the US. The head basketball coach at Temple university was her legal guardian. She’s played ball in Europe and US WNBA teams before getting traded to the Liberty in 2023. Jonquel’s story should be made into a movie!

I’m no latecomer to recognizing the talent on New York Liberty. As Beauty Editor for Harris Publications, I interviewed and conducted a makeover for WNBA star Teresa Weatherspoon while she was playing for the Liberty for Black Celebrity 101 Hairstyles magazineI interviewed Kym Hampton for Black Celebrity 101 Hairstyles and conducted the makeovers, too.

My family has been New York Liberty fans from the beginning! My daughter got to meet Kym when the team still played at Madison Square Garden. Great time for my (then) little girl to see basketball legends in the making.

More people are realizing that women’s sports need more respect. But this is not new for me! In addition to heading to Olympic trials for track and field athlete in college, I played several sports in high school, including basketball. I know all about teamwork, hard work and fun that goes in competition!

I also know that skin needs gentle care after working out to avoid acne, rash breakouts, clogged pores and infections. Wash hands before touching your face. Don’t scrub the face hard. Blot dry with a clean towel. Moisturize and drink lots of water to hydrate. Exercise is so important for both the body and mind. But it can wreak havoc on the complexion! Those who go very hard and sweat a lot may dehydrate their skin.

All athletes must make sure to dislodge oils and buildup that comes from perspiration. They have to gently clean their faces, and make sure to rinse shampoos off their skin to avoid breakouts, irritation and more serious problems. See a dermatologist for stubborn conditions.

Keeping hydrated is as important for the skin as cleansing! Your face will thank you with visible results of more vibrant and brighter looking skin!
