I always crave the warmth of the Bahamas, my family home. I decided to make Bahamian Boil Fish so that I could have the warmth of my ancestors in my New York home! On cloudy days I miss the Bahamas, and the sun that kisses our skin. I also miss the food that my mom and aunts made. So I made Bahamian Boil Fish Soup!

The omega-3 fatty acids and zinc in the fish are great for keeping the skin supple. Potatoes have zinc and vitamin C, chock full of minerals. That delicious broth hydrates and puts a glow on my face. The whole grain bread adds vitamin B, which helps maintain collagen levels that make our skin elastic, reduces inflammation and works to heal.
Aside from that having a taste of home heals my soul as well. Bahamian Boil Fish is a tradition in my family. I made it from scratch and made sure that it was not a clear broth; the result was so full of flavor that it reminded me of my beloved relatives.
A perfect time to share Boil Fish Soup (other than dreary cold days) is on Bahamian Independence Day on July 10, or on US Labor Day, when Brooklyn comes alive for the annual West Indian Day parade!
