I attended The Makeup Show press preview event at Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. This will be a very exciting and timely show for professionals and students in beauty and cosmetics Sunday to Monday, May 5–6.

James Vincent is Director of Education and Artistry. He has so much knowledge that only an experienced makeup veteran can bring. You can’t help but get caught up in his passion!

There are demonstrations everywhere you could see. Met so many interesting people, including kidpreneur Journey Philips @journeyandcompany, the youngest businesswoman with the newest company — only two months old! Her GRL PWR ten–free nail polish collection is bright like her! From her website: “In kindergarten, Journey moved into a new community that lacked diversity. To bring about inclusivity and celebrate individuality, she gifted her classmates with her handmade nail polishes with a personalized inspirational note attached, demonstrating girl power for everyone.”

As soon as Sebastien Tardif of Veil Cosmetics applied a sample of his foundation to my hand, I could feel the quality! Note the name is “Veil”, not mask; no applying heavy layer upon layer until we no longer see the real person anymore. He had passion and a driven vision.

It was great to reunite with the fiercely talented Danessa Myricks. I brought on Danessa at the beginning of her career and now SHE’s the makeup teacher expert! Danessa will be a key speaker at the event.

I also reunited with the amazing Matthew Jordan Smith. Matthew and I go way back in the beauty industry; I’ve known him for YEARS. He’s based in Tokyo now. So thrilled to see him doing sensational things! Look at his FABULOUS photographs that are on display at the event. Matthew will be a key speaker, too.

This work of art by Matthew Jordan Smith is even more awesome in person.

Here’s another beautiful photo by Matthew. Gordon Parks was a major film director (including The Learning Tree and Shaft) and an icon in Black film history.

Congrats to Shelly Taggar, owner of The Makeup Show, for putting on such an important impressive event! It was a very exciting and timely show, with an impressive number of brands established and brand new. Look for The Makeup Show/TMS Beauty Show’s next events in August in Washington DC and San Francisco!
