Good News! The Makeup Show is back home in New York City! After two years of gatherings online, the show for makeup professionals held a successful event in-person in November and has planned more good things to come in 2022!
The Makeup Show is the must–go event for professionals and is one of the largest professional makeup events in the United States. I attended the last New York City event in 2019, when representatives and demonstrations from more than 120 of the most exclusive beauty brands in the industry were there, and more than 5,000 attendees came from all over the world to learn techniques from master artists, mingle with peers, and shop for their favorite brands.
November 2021’s return event was more mindful of the current precautions required for groups. Half the usual number of brands exhibited and only 2,000 attendees were admitted — with proof of vaccination. But those lucky beauty professionals were able to enjoy more than 50 educational sessions on the six stages at the Metropolitan Pavilion!
Everyone who came to this year’s The Makeup Show were able to see Mimi Choi on the Main Stage. Mimi is known for creating unique illusionist looks, like her work here called “Glitch”
Beyond the usual display of products and techniques, the demonstrations showed how they put the “art” in the “makeup artist”. J. Vargas and Michaela Wareib did mesmerizing full-body makeup displays. In addition to Michaela, who is from Liberia, the International Stage was sponsored by Danessa Myricks Beauty and featured artists such as Pepe Gutierrez from Mexico and Marika D’Auteuil and Yvonne MacInnis from Canada. Look at 3D work by J. Vargas, Michaela and also Yvonne’s creation called “Birdcage”!
The panels were informative, inspiring and thought-provoking. James Vincent, Danessa Myricks, Daniel Martin, Michela Wariebi, & Matin Maulawizada panel topic was a tough but necessary conversation about the accountability and inclusion that needs to be addressed in the beauty community. Other panels covered makeup techniques, artistry, marketing and the cosmetics business.
I’m happy to share that they have announced that the next event will be in Chicago March 26 and 27, 2022 (after a three-year absence) and then the Show will be back at its New York City home base on May 1 and 2, followed by Long Beach, California on October 1 and 2!
April 27-30, 2022 is going to be very special! Looking for a chance to be mentored and have a more hands-on experience? Register for iArtist 3.0 – Elements of Art Forum! Participating beauty artists will be taught in-person by the industry’s leading artists and be coached on technique, what it takes to succeed as a self-made business and more. The program also includes 15 virtual sessions with top people in the industry, a ticket to New York City’s The Makeup Show in May and a gift bag valued at over $500!
Now if you can’t call this the return of The Makeup Show, what more signs are needed to believe that the Show is really, really back! Great job by owners and producers Shelly Taggar and Alan Boss. Looking forward to May 2022!
